Compression Socks

Health Craft Compression Socks

Compression socks or hosiery aren’t just those unattractive leg coverings your grandma used to wear! As
a matter of fact, compression socks are recommended for a huge variety of symptoms and conditions
and can truly benefit the wearer. And they look more stylish than they did decades ago, too!

How do compression socks work?

Compression socks – or gradient compression hosiery – accomplishes three main purposes.

  • They increase blood flow through the veins
  • They increase oxygen to the muscle tissue
  • They aid with circulation

How does this work? Compression socks can accomplish these goals by providing a controlled amount of
pressure, tightest at the ankles and becoming less constricting as they reach the thighs and the knees.
Because they compress arteries, muscles, and surface veins, more blood will return to the heart. As a
result, blood does not pool around the feet, eliminating problems such as swollen ankles.

Who can benefit from compression socks?

Individuals with a number of different diseases, disorders, or injuries can benefit from wearing
compression socks for a short time or for the long term. However, you don’t have to be sick or hurt to
wear compression socks. They can often relieve symptoms caused by everyday things we do, like
standing for hours at work. Athletes also wear compression socks.

Consider compression socks if you:

  • Regularly suffer from swollen feet, ankles, or legs, including during travel
  • Have tired or aching legs
  • Are overweight
  • Have moderate to severe varicose veins
  • Suffer from chronic venous insufficiency
  • Are pregnant and regularly dealing with edema (swelling)
  • Must sit or stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Have lymphedema due to cancer treatment or other problems
  • Are undergoing schlerotherapy

Compression socks should fit properly in order for them to work well and not be too restrictive. At
Health Craft Clinic, we use the Bauerfiend line of compression stockings, made of light and breathable
microfiber. In addition, the design of these socks is understated and they go well with any style of
clothing. Also, the non-skid foot design offers protection from pressure points and during increased
strain. Our patients find that they’re comfortable and affordable as well as long-lasting and easy to care
for.
