Medical Bracing
Craft Health Medical Bracing
Orthopedic bracing often plays a major role in recuperative medicine, used for reasons such as to
immobilize joints so that they heal properly in an effective position. Maybe you’ve worn a brace on your
knee, wrist, or other body part after an injury because your doctor wanted you to avoid aggravating the
injury or wanted to make sure that the blood flow to your muscles, tendons, or ligaments was regulated.
Indeed, medical bracing can be an important part of your recovery and can also be used for injury
prevention. It’s important, however, to choose the right kind of brace as well as one that fits properly so
that you’re not doing more harm than good.
At Health Craft Clinic, we’re experts at medical bracing, measuring and customizing braces for each
particular patient.
What are the benefits of bracing?
High-quality, custom braces will offer these benefits to the wearer:
- Increased movement – Because braces can help align the joints, pain and abnormal movement
are reduced and the patient begins to have normal function restored. For example, a knee brace can help a patient walk or go up and down the steps with less discomfort. - Load distribution – Braces can help to shift the weight load from the affected part of the joint to
the unaffected part, therefore sharing the load. This removes pressure on the affected joint area. - Joint stability – A well-fitted brace renews stability and often results in less pain and discomfort in the injured area.
In short, braces protect, stabilize, and can address abnormal joint alignment, allowing patients who use
them to recover more quickly and return to their regular activities faster as well.
How are medical braces made?
Each brand of brace is a little different. At Health Craft Clinic, we use the Bauerfeind brand, which offers
braces for knees, wrists, thumbs, low back, shoulders, and ankles. This high-quality brand is fashioned
from a stretchable, breathable knitted fabric and features elastic profile inserts. They provide support
with every movement and even help to massage the joint, stimulating blood circulation and supporting
the healing process. Unlike some other braces, they are not difficult to put on and are not constricting.
